I don’t think stereotyping a generation of people — who are all different individuals with different motivations — is necessary for bosses to understand how not to suck. Learning how not to be untrusting and manipulative has nothing to do with “understanding the generation” — Things like micro-management, broken promises and overwork/underpay piss everybody off. Not to mention:

  1. Most people I know do just fine without colleagues they would die for.
  2. People starved for money will definitely be motivated by more of it. It takes privilege to not care about pay.
  3. Most people don’t get to work on “Interesting Problems” because their jobs are necessary but not sexy. What are bosses at these workplaces supposed to do?
